Now this is the FCNBING podcast network. Just Listen to Yourself presents I'm Saying with Davis. Juneenth is a freedom centered holiday that is short for June nineteenth. It marks the day federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, in eighteen sixty five to inform all Texans about the emancipation proclamation that had formally freed the slaves nearly two and a half years earlier. Back in a time when communication with the outside world was a matter of weeks and months, not seconds and minutes, it wasn't a sure thing that everyone would hear about important breaking news in a timely fashion. It took a while for the news of emancipation to reach Texas, and when it did, slave owners committed to their gruesome industry buried the information and continued to operate as usual. Other slave owners began to see Texas as a type of blind spot in the emancipation policy and moved there to hopefully continue their trade under the radar. All that deception was crushed on June nineteenth, eighteen sixty five, when federal troops arrived to share the good news. June teenth became a Texas tradition and one that came to be celebrated by many black communities acrosst nation. In twenty twenty one, the Biden administration declared Juneteenth a federal holiday, putting it on par with July fourth as a celebration of freedom. Some Americans found the move annoying, a naked attempt at pandering in the age of Black Lives Matter, and I have no doubt that is exactly what Democrats and Joe Biden were doing. But that is neither here nor there at this point, and June teenth is certainly a holiday worth celebrating. Freedom is the hallmark of American culture, and given that we are forced to choke on an entire month of celebrating the sexual proclivities of others, it doesn't seem like such a bad idea to add a second day of freedom celebrations to our summer calendar. In fact, I would like to propose an official Freedom Month. It should be a federally recognized month thirty days, beginning on Flag Day June fourteenth, and culminating with huge celebrations the week of Independence Day. The federal government can offer subsidies and grants two municipalities that throw Freedom Month activities like they do for Pride Month. Corporations can use the month as sales opportunities, creating promotions, rewards, programs, and products to celebrate Freedom Month, just like they do with Pride Month. Schools and government institutions can change the color of their lights and building decorations to Americana colors. Teachers can hang freedom memorabilia and symbols in the classrooms. News networks can run wall to wall programming on freedom and all the different aspects of our journey to freedom like Juneteenth, for example, the alphabet activists have been shockingly effective in inundating American society with Pride symbology. It's time for freedom to have another fifteen minutes of things. Freedom needs a brand. Let's make it happen. In the meantime, don't be hesitant to recognize and celebrate the Great Holiday of Juneteenth. It may not have the political genesis you prefer, but it's still a vital piece of the American story and a blatant opportunity to loudly and proudly celebrate the unique type of freedom that is our American legacy. Happy Juneteens, everyone. I'm Kira Davison. I'm just saying. This has been a presentation of the FCB podcast Network, where Real Talk lives. Visitors online at fcbpodcasts dot com.
