Guest: Rick Cain, Adams Sign Company
This is the FCB Podcast Network, this is the Jeff Lorian Nick Show. Welcome to the Jeff Loriia Nick Show, and we're here today with an exciting guest, one who is able to help many businesses and folks that are starting businesses are always in need of what this particular company and individual represents and provides. So our focus is always on finding solutions here at the Jeff Loriian Nick Show. And today I want to introduce and welcome to our show, mister Rick Kane of the Adams Sign Company that's located in central Ohio. Rick, how are you to day? I'm doing super? How about you doing great? Just glad to have you on and Rick great to be on. Yeah, well you're quite welcome. Rick is the vice president of the Adams Sign Company, and we know that anyone who's starting a business needs a sign. Rick, can you tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do at Adams Signed Company and tell us about the company as well. Okay, the company has been in business since nineteen forty three. We cover all of Ohio and the western Pennsylvania area and we are we concentrate on medium in small businesses. We understand particularly businesses that are in their infancy are starting out that they really don't know a lot about signage, and we can kind of walk them through the steps that they would need to add effective signage to their marketing efforts. The other thing that we offer to is one size as far as signage is current concern doesn't fit all both both from a budgetary standpoint and a need standpoint. So if somebody's an established business, they might want something more sophisticated, which tends to be more expensive. If you're brand new in business, we can work with you on that that we can come up with a solution that will work within your budget. But we always try to emphasize our flexibility depending on your company needs. That's awesome to have such a great company that's been around with that type of integrity, a type of history just available to all of Ohio. Rick, can you tell us about churches. I know that you've provided a lot of signs. When I say you that Adams Signed Company has provided a lot of signs for churches, could you speak to that a little bit sure? In fact, that's that's our that's our favorite market that we considered that our specialty market because we've worked with him for so long. Again, this a church congregation falls in the kind of the same category that a lot of businesses too. There's some very very small congregations, some medium sized congregations, and very very large, well established congregation. And we pride ourselves into being able to work within the environment that prescribed by each individual congregation and what their needs might be. So typically, typically a smaller congregation would they may not require, say a digital sign, which has become very popular with different churches throughout our area. They may need just a basic sign that announces what the name of the church is, or and possibly a sign where somebody can go out and put different messages, will manually put different messages on with letters. And these tend to be very basic signs and they're relatively inexpensive. They work perfectly for small congregations, whereas medium to large congregations electronic message displays or digital signs. I'm very popular with them. Is it become so popular because it is all churches I've found, including my own, we all have the same application when it comes to what we offer to the community. Basically, we have lots of activities, have lots of meetings, lots of events. An electronic message display gives the congregation an opportunity to advertise to the community, to advertise the community what their individual events are within that particular church. And there's many many folks out there that don't have a church home, and there may be an event that an individual church is having that interests somebody in the community and you know, come in to check out the event and find that they like the congregation and they like the church and end up joining. Which as as Christians, that's our that's our main focus is to bring other folks to the Lord and through bringing them through church. So it's we found it's a great opportunity to share share the Lord with others. The pastors at these churches that have these also love them because it enables them to give inspirational scriptures that on a weekly basis or daily basis, however they want to do it. So gives them the flexibility to show the public what's going on at that particular congregation. Also, I heard it said that kids are younger people well do everything digitally. They go to school, they're own computers, they go home their own computers all day, they have their digital phones. Uh and it's important for churches to keep up with the times. And when they get church, uh, it's it's more attractive to see to communicate digitally through electronic message boards or centers, and that's kind of keeping up with the times. Can you kind of speak to that too, because I know that the history of it was at one time they were just old. I think they were called reader boards that they were put up in front of churches. At first they were just a little wooden signs and then you could kind of spe that a little bit, oh well exactly originally, originally somebody would go out to like a wooden board or or some type of devoid ice and put plastic letters in them to announce the church times and so forth. What we what we've all found, as you know, most congregations, as we know, it doesn't matter what the denomination is or where you're located, whether you're in Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, Canton, wherever. We all have a similar problem is most of us black, younger, younger members and younger families. Well, if you go digital, you know, like with a digital sign with PowerPoint presentations in the sanctuary, that sort of thing, those are attractive to young people and young families, and I know it. Our particular church, we have younger, younger members of the congregation operating these devices and they do it quite effectively because they've grown up with that technology where a lot of us have not. So again, this is another tool to attract younger people within the congregation. They tend to think that these types of communication methods are it's what they're growing up with, it's what they're used to, and it's the way they like to transact their lives. Rick tell us what's the best way to go about getting one of these signs? And and can they be paid for over a period of time? Do folks need to just h is it you know, pay fifty percent down or cash up front? How does one go about getting a sign? Okay, that's a great question. When we get an inquiry for when we get an inquiry from a for any sign or particularly a church, what either myself or my partner Paul Boyer, we'll do is we want to come. We want to come out and meet to folks and see so we make the work so we can make the right recommendations. So we'll actually go out and meet with them at the specific church so we can determine their needs both as size wise, space wise, technology wise. So what we'll do is with with the agreement of whoever we're working with within the congregation, we're going to agreement on size and so forth. We'll then prepare our arts department will prepare a mock up for them, and then we'll we'll prepare a quote for them, and we'll go out and talk to them and explain everything to them, explain the pricing to them. And they have a couple of options as far as paying for the sign. Obviously they can just pay for it. About half half of our customers do take advantage of our least purchase agreement, which is it's basically a rent to own, and we can fit the payments based on what their budget would be. And let's say if it's say five year sixty month agreement, they'll make the sixty payments and then the sign is theirs and they can do it. It's particularly been popular with the digital signs, but they can do it with any product that we sell. Also, I think you might want to speak to this too. Are you a one service shop. I've heard tragic some real horse stories, tragic stories about individuals trying to piecemeal their signs. They get, you know, different parts from They may buy signs from one particular person then get maybe controls from another or try to get it repaired. Can you kind of talk speak to that a little bit. We've only got a couple of minutes left. Yeah, that's the next That's an excellent question. Anything, anything that we would install at any customer's office is a turn key operation. We design it for them, we manufacturer for them, we install it for them, and then we service it and are all of our products carry a warranty. On just standard signs, it's one year warranty. On workmanship and on the digital signs it's a five year warranty. But anybody that purchases from Adams Science can rest assured that we will be taking care of you and your sign for the life of the sign until you make any changes. So, if you're looking for a company where it's a turnkey operation, where we determine what your needs would be, we manufacture the science, service it and warrant it and until the end of its ceaseful life, so you truly are a one stop shop. That's good. Please tell us our audience if someone or some institution, some business, some church might be interested in obtaining a sign so that they're up to date, they're able to better communicate with the community, they're more relevant to the time. Tell us what should they do? How can they reach you? Okay, if they I've got a couple of suggestions. If if they go to our if they can go to our website and adds Adam Signs dot com and they have we have a showcase on there of our different types of signs, so they can look at what kinds of signs they like. Rick, just wondering where how how many signs have you provided for churches across the state, of Ohio. As far as the digital signs are concerned, we put up about a hundred of those a year, and just churches in general probably I'm guessing around one hundred seventy five to two hundred. Oh, that's one. And I mean we also do a lot of internal signage for churches also, you know, dedictation plaques and stuff like that. But I'm speaking more pronominantly for exterior signs. What we do. If you need anything inside, we can do that also. Yes, and again businesses that are in mall etc. Outdoors, any type of sign for any type of a building Adams Signed Company provides.
