The following is a presentation of FCB Faith. This is the jeff Lorian Nick Show. Welcome to the jeff Lorian Nick Show. We are an informative show that focuses on finding solutions to the problems that we face. This is Darbill Morrow. I am the producer of the show, but I'm feeling in today for jeff Lori and Nick. We have a very special guest on the show today. She is a state Ohio State Representative, Beth Lear, who's going to talk about some important initiatives that she's working on. First of all, welcome to the show. How are you. I'm great, Thank you very much for having me, absolutely, thank you for being here. So there is a bill that you're that you're working on, and we'll get to that in just a second, But first, tell us a little bit about yourself and tell us a little bit about your district. Well I am. I'm a fifty six year old crazy grandma who thought that it was important to be involved with politics. My first job out of college was actually as a legislative aid. So the moment that I left the Ohio Air National Guard, I went into service at the Ohio House of Representatives. I was nineteen ninety three, and what it taught me was there's no way anybody who is sane or a decent individual should ever get involved in politics. Obviously, that did not stay my view, only because as we have to have decent people get involved, because the job of government is to restrain evil. So I was pressed into work and I ran and in last fall, in November, I won. So I started my first term in January this year. Awesome. Awesome. So what has the experience been like so far since you've since you've been elected. Well, for most people, this is a really unique time at the House. But for me, because God just created me to be a fighter, I'm not surprised by what's going on. I mean we started. The very first vote was a coup for the speakership. The Republicans have sixty seven out of ninety nine, so the view has always been that the majority gets to pick the speaker. We elected him at a Republican meeting in November, but we had a coup from another Republican who decided that he wanted to be the speaker, and he co ordinated with the Democrats with the help of some lobbyists and some unions and twenty one other Republicans jumped ship after they committed to vote for Derek Marrin. So the very first day, the very first vote was for a speaker who had not been chosen, and things have been pretty crazy ever since then. Yeah, that sounds like it sounds like it. So before we go into the bill, what do you think is the biggest thing that you've learned so far being on this side of politics that you didn't know from the outside. Honestly, I'm so pleased to say that one thing that I've learned that has surprised me is the number of decent, god fearing individuals who have run for office and successfully been elected. I am so blessed to be working with a group of new members who are committed to honoring their word and doing their best for their constituents. And there are quite a few others who are also in the House. But when you look at things like the householder trial and Gorgeous and all the corruption, it really makes you question whether anybody decent is in government. And there are some folks and that was super encouraging. Well, that's good to know that, all right, So tell us about H one eighty three, called the bathroom bill. Tell us, tell us about the bill. Yeah, a lot. Most people call it the bathroom Bill. I call it the Protect All Children Act, because that's what it's intended to do. I mean, our society, as most people can see, are they're going crazy there. They've turned their backs on God. Now they're turning their backs on any science that agrees with the Bible, such as male and female. He created them. They're rejecting DNA, they're rejecting biology one O one. It's putting our kids at risk. And this has been a concern for a while, but it's just blossoming like crazy when you see the number of female peer groups where multiple girls in a peer group who have never shown any so called gender dysphoria, all of the sudden, all announced that they're two or three or five out of a group are suddenly going to become transgender men. They obviously haven't been taught in their biology class that it's xx or x y and you can't change that. But we have young men and even very young boys, super confused going into the girls' bathrooms, some because of confusions, some with ulterior motives, especially the adult men. And we have to protect our women and our girls. We also need to protect our boys from what's happening to them and the indoctrination into this belief that you can actually change who you are by changing your clothes, your name, medications, or surgery. So as we see more and more of this happening in our school districts, superintendents have begun calling members. My dear friend Chris Jordan, who was a state rep on the other side of Delaware County, passed away late February, and he's got three young kids in the school system and he was going to introduced this bill after he died. I picked it up, and a former school superintendent from southern Ohio, Adam Bird, joined me as a joint sponsor because he feels this is such a serious issue. We're talking with Ohio State Representative Beth Lear, So let's dig into that a little bit more. What you know inspired you to introduce the bill. Was there a particular incident or was it just an overall climate, like what inspires you to introduce the bill? Well, it is the overall climate. But then I'm now in a position where I can do something about what I'm seeing. And one of my school district's last fall had three young girls who said we're not girls, were boys, and because they made that announcement, they were allowed to join the boys in one of the boys cabin at band camp. So it's it's not a fraud, it's not a conspiracy theory. It's a real thing that's happening. And I mostly took up the mantle because my friend Chris couldn't, but I had been a co sponsor of that bill before he actually was able to introduce it. So it's the things that we're seeing. It's the destruction of our children. It's the elimination of their innocence, and it's the indoctrination of their spirits. That has really pushed me to say, we've got to stop this. And I know the school boards and the superintendents are asking the state to step in and do something because they're being told by their insurance companies and their lawyers that they have no choice. They have to let girls and boys share these group facilities, showers, locker rooms, bathrooms, and overnight accommodations. So the state is going to have to to take a stand. Wait, they're being told that they have no choice. They are well, it started with President Barack Obama who introduced this change and made this demand. I think it was in May of twenty fourteen, but President Trump eliminated that requirement from their administrative law, and then of course President Biden put it right back in demanding that schools open up their facilities for shared use. Wow. So do you feel that right now with everything going on on this issue, do you feel that there is an attack on girls and women right now? Oh? Absolutely, I feel like they're trying to rerace us. I mean, if you hear some of the honest conversation amongst the drag queens and men in the LGBTQ movement, we'll hear a disdain for women. The drag queens of whom I am aware, are disrespectful of women. They have no positive view of them, and they're dressing up is a mockery of us. And when you take it that next step where they want to be us and push us out of our sports and then worse, push us out of our private spaces and not actually I don't know that they want to push us out. I think they want to force us to be in there and view them. That's one of the things that Riley Gaines mentioned about William Thomas that he walked in and he stripped down naked in front of that entire swim team and paraded around their locker room that way. Most guys I've talked to said that is not a normal behavior for guys in a guy's locker room. So clearly he was trying to get something out of that and make those women and girls feel on comfortable and also unsafe, and that is unacceptable. And so with your bill, talk a little bit about the specifics of your bill. How does this bill protect girls enloyment. Well, it gives superintendents in school boards the authority to say we cannot allow you into that facility because state law prohibits it, and it provides them with a backstop. So if the insurance company or an attorney comes and says you have to allow what, they can say, oh, nope, the law says we cannot. They still are wanting to be helpful to kids who have been confused by the things that are happening in our culture. So some schools have said, here you can use the staff bathroom, or here's a single person bathroom, you're welcome to use that. In some places like Connecticut, they've actually pushed back and the young man said, no, I demand to use the group facility, and a court actually agreed with him. But in Ohio, we believe that things will go in a different direction. We have a more conservative court at the Supreme Court level, more conservative district a US court, So we hope that they'll take the safety of women and girls more seriously and want to actually protect them from confuse people and people who have criminal intent. And so for people who are listening who are supportive of this effort, how can they, like, what what can they do to build support for your bills? If there are people who are listening who are in favor of well, it would really be a great help if they could make a couple of calls. A call to their own state representative expressing how absolutely imperative this is, but also a call to the Speaker's office to let him know that they think this is an issue that is of great importance. They want to ask him to move it as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, at this point we're not going to have it in place in time for the beginning of school. But his view is that we should try to push it out before the primary In March, So let's just try to hold his feet to the fire for that. If we're able to get it out of the House, the next step will be push the Senate. Call your senators, call the Senate President. But for now, we have to start in the House. That's where the bill is, and I hope that people will contact their state reps and tell them how imperative it is to protect women and girls. And so far, what is the ever looking like in the House. Does the bill have a lot of support right now? What does it look like right now? Well, we have a lot of Republicans who have signed on. I was really blessed to see the chairman of Primary and Secondary Education and Higher Ed, two separate committees, both wanted the bill and the agreement we ended up coming to was because this effects primary or preschool I'm sorry, through twelfth grade as well as Higher ED. We went ahead and agreed to let Higher edg committee have the bill, and then the chair of the Primary and Secondary Education Committee became my joint sponsor. So we have a lot of folks who are very supportive of this, especially since they're getting calls from their superintendence. The only problem that we have is this desire to hold it so that it can be a primary vote, something that Republican constituencies will see and say, oh, look, my representative voted correctly and it's protecting women and girls. It's pushing it off too long, but we just have to get it done at some point in time. So I'm encouraged by the number of my fellow Republicans. I wish Democrats would see that this is for all kids. This even protects the kids who are confused with gender dysphoria, because you don't want a young girl walking into the boy's bathroom in high school. That is not a safe situation for her, even if she thinks she's a boy. And it just breaks my heart that Democrats don't see that this is a serious issue for all of our kids and this is the only way to help them. And also if for people who there's anybody who want to give them kind chech with you and find out more information, reach out to you on website, social media, all that good stuff. Let him know how to how to get in contact with you. Well, sure at my office out at the State House, so I'm the sixty first House District rep. So you can email Rep. Sixty one, r EPs in Paul sixty one at Ohio House dot gov, goov or you can call me at six one four six six one four three one. I have a wonderful aid named Lydia. She is the one who usually answers the phone. I would still encourage folks to reach out to their own state rep. But if you have additional questions that you need answered, or want a copy of the bill or anything like that, you are welcome to give us a call. We will respond as soon as we're able. Oh, I'll stay representative Beth Lear. Thank you so much for coming on the show and bringing this information to us and sharing us with our audience. We really appreciate it. Oh, it's such a pleasure. Thank you for having me. And I hope that your constituency will take this and just run with it like something that they've never run with before, because we really need to move this bill and I'm grateful for the opportunity to speak to it. Thank you all right, and thank you to our audience for joining us for another episode. And as Jeff always says, keep fighting the good fight and we can all do better. We'll see you next time.
